Organic and bio-dynamic farming and processing is focussed on working with natural inputs and minimising adverse environmental impact.

A key principle in organic production systems is to direct farming activity to reduce the environmental impact of farming processes, by improving the soil and land biodiversity so that plants and animals are provided with an abundance of naturally occurring nutrients rather than synthetic substances.

Organic certification with OFC offers you:

  • the recognition needed for access to niche organic domestic & export markets
  • written guarantee of quality to the customer
  • the potential of receiving a premium price for your product
  • consumer reassurance that products are produced organically while being monitored by a third party inspection process

Anyone who produces, prepares or markets certified organic, bio-dynamic or in-conversion products must be certified through an approved certifying body such as OFC.

We certify to the Australian Federal Government’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry National Standard for Organic and Bio-Dynamic Produce.

Organic and bio-dynamic food products certified to the National Standard do not allow:

  • Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s)
  • Chemical insecticides, herbicides or fungicides
  • Treatment with ionising radiation
  • Manufacturing/production using nanotechnology
  • “Nature identical” synthetic substances
  • Synthetic substances primarily considered as being unnatural or as a “new construction” of food compounds such as acetylated cross‐linked starches
  • Additives or processing aids produced using genetic engineering techniques
  • Synthetic colouring and synthetic preservatives

OFC’s Two Levels of Organic Certification

If you grow or produce products that may end up in the export market, including as ingredients in other products, you must be certified as eligible for export. Certification to the National Standard ensures you meet this requirement. We offer two levels of certification, with eligibility determined by your business turnover. Both levels of certification are valid in domestic and international markets.

Small Operator

Affordable organic certification perfect for new or small business. It is ideal for a start-up business wanting to be certified organic to reduce the costs in the start-up phase of business.

To be eligible for Small Operator organic certification, your turnover must not exceed $100,000 p.a excluding GST. You will be asked to sign a statutory declaration regarding your turnover prior to each annual inspection to ensure your compliance with this requirement.

When your business grows above a turnover of $100,000 p.a. excluding GST, there is an increase in certification fee as you will move across to the ‘General’ certification level.

This program is available immediately for new Small Operator applicants and applicants to our former Domestic Only Small Operator program. For existing operators/applicants, if certification renewal is due on or after 01/07/2024, you may apply to OFC for Small Operator certification when renewing.

General

Even if you are not exporting, you must have this level of certification with OFC if your turnover is greater than $100,000 p.a. excluding GST.

All operators regardless of turnover will use the following logo. Once certified and eligible for a certificate, you will receive a personalised logo with your own certification number:
